Strong friendship between Serbia and Greece: Greek president receives Serbian ambassador in Athens

Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou has received Serbian Ambassador Nikola Nedeljkovic in Athens, who presented his accreditation letter today at Greece's presidential palace, on the (Orthodox) Feast of Exaltation of the Cross Day, a statement said.

Ambassador Nedeljkovic conveyed the warm greetings and messages from President Aleksandar Vucic, and Serbia's determination to further deepen overall relations and strategic partnership with Greece.

In the conversation with the Greek president, Nedeljkovic assessed that the ties between the Serbian and Greek peoples are brotherly and unbreakable, and he also emphasized his personal readiness to contribute to their further strenthening during his term in Athens.

He especially thanked Greece for its position not to recognize so-called of Kosovo, with the expectation that mutual support on key issues of state and national interests will continue in the future.

He said that he believes Greece, as a new non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, will consistently advocate for respect of international law and the fundamental principles of the UN Charter.

Speaking about the numerous and contentful meetings that the president of Serbia had in New York during his participation in the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, Ambassador Nedeljkovic expressed his satisfaction with the meeting between President Aleksandar Vucic and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, as well as the meeting the Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric had with his Greek counterpart Giorgos Gerapetritis.

According to the ambassador they jointly assessed extremely important for the further improvement of Serbian-Greek cooperation, especially in the domain of economy, energy and infrastructure.

Katerina Sakellaropoulou welcomed Ambassador Nedeljkovic and wished him much success in his work in Athens, conveying warm greetings to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

She pointed out that centuries-old relations between Serbia and Greece are characterized by strong friendship, mutual trust and support, as well as deep historical, cultural, and spiritual (Orthodox Christian) ties between the two peoples.

The Greek president said that her hope was that, based precisely on these foundations, the relations between the two countries will develop in the future to their mutual benefit.
