Prosecution's statement after horrific crash near Raska: Five people died, driver in custody

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Kraljevo, which is conducting the investigation into a traffic accident that occurred on Saturday afternoon on the Raska-Kraljevo road, has issued a statement.

A Ford a Serbian Army combat vehicle were involved in the crash, that left five civilians dead, three of them children.

"On September 23, 2024, the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Kraljevo issued an order to conduct an investigation against M.V. from Nis on suspicion that he committed a serious crime against public traffic safety, to the detriment of D.L., minors L.L., L.L. and M.L., as well as D.K. After questioning the suspect, and at the suggestion of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Kraljevo, he was placed in custody on the order of the Higher Court in Kraljevo," said the prosecution's statement.

"In the course of the investigation, witnesses will be examined, findings and opinions of medical and traffic experts will be obtained, and other evidentiary actions will be undertaken as needed. After the investigation, the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Kraljevo will make a decision about which the public will be informed in a timely manner."

The mother of the children left the hospital on her own initiative. She is is the only survivor from the Ford, where her husband, three children, and a neighbor all perished during the crash on Saturday.
