Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met today in Belgrade with Vatican's State Secretary Pietro Parolin to discuss maintaining regular political dialogue at all levels as well as protection and renovation of Serb religious and cultural heritage in the autonomous province of Kosovo and Metohija.

Vucic added that Serbia's cooperation with the Catholic Church was good, with mutual respect and efforts to further improve it.

Vucic said Serbia highly appreciated the Holy See's principled position not to recognize the unilaterally declared independence of so-called Kosovo, as well as its understanding for Serbia's position, based on international law.

"An excellent meeting with Cardinal Parolin, with whom I discussed holding regular political dialogue at all levels as well as Serbia's cooperation with the Roman Catholic Church, which is good, with mutual respect and efforts to improve it," Vucic wrote on the Instagram account " buducnostsrbijeav".

The president stated that Serbia is committed to continue with constructive relations with the Holy See and improve them, considering that it sgared the same views on many international issues, above all, protection of Christians and Christian heritage as well as improvement of Christians' human rights.

"In relation to that, I stressed that the issue of protection, respect and improvement of the rights of Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo and Metohija is essential for Serbia, as is the protection and restoration of Serb religious and cultural heritage, Orthodox cemeteries and endangered monuments of culture, especially Orthodox churches and monasteries that are under UNESCO's protection," Vucic said.

The president added that other topics of mutual interest have also been discussed.
