We have unofficially learned that a wildfire started yesterday in very steep and inaccessible terrain between Priboj and Zlatibor.

It is suspected that the cause was a lightning strike.

The fire broke out, the locals tell us, in a very inaccessible area, and the flames soon spread to dry grass, low vegetation, and woods.

The slopes above the Uvac River are on fire in the area of the village of Brezna near Priboj, and it is spreading in the direction of the village of Stublo on Mt. Zlatibor, not far from the monastery Uvac, which is located in the canyon of the river.

The fire has engulfed tens of hectares of land, and firefighters and workers from the public company JP Srbijasume are trying to extinguish it.

Today, the Nature Park Zlatibor guards joined them.

Witnesses say that the smoke is spreading in all directions, covering surrounding villages, and it can be smelled in almost all municipalities of the Zlatibor Okrug (district), especially in Priboj, Nova Varos, Cajetina, Prijepolje, and even as far as the town of Uzice.
