Ana Brnabic hosts speaker of Indonesia's House of Representatives
President of the Serbian National Assembly Ana Brnabic met today with Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Indonesian Parliament Puan Maharani.
On that occasion Brnabic stressed that she considers Indonesia a great friend and important partner of Serbia, with which it shares common values and has excellent bilateral relations.
She said that the visit provides a significant impetus for further improvement of traditionally close relations and comprehensive cooperation between our countries, said a statement issued by the National Assembly.
At the same time, she expressed satisfaction that she has the opportunity to host a high delegation from Indonesia and emphasized that it is a meeting that provides a unique opportunity to exchange opinions on ways to further develop traditionally friendly relations between the two countries.
"Diplomatic relations between Serbia and Indonesia were established in 1954, and this year we are marking 70 years since that event," said Brnabic.
Brnabic recalled that in July of this year, the newly elected president of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, visited Serbia.
She stressed that Serbia is extremely committed to further strengthening bilateral relations with Indonesia and that she hopes that with through efforts and parliamentary cooperation, they will contribute to the improvement of overall relations between our two countries.
Also, it was pointed out that during the ASEAN summit in Jakarta, Serbia signed a document on accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), which is an important step in the further improvement of economic cooperation.
As stated, in 2023, Indonesia became Serbia's most important foreign trade partner within ASEAN in terms of the volume of exchange and individual imports, while in terms of the value of our exports to ASEAN, it is in seventh place.
At the end of the meeting, Brnabic used the opportunity to once again express her gratitude to Indonesia for continuous support, as well as valuable assistance during the process of joining the Treaty and congratulated the country on the successful ASEAN presidency in 2023.
