Before EXPO exhibition, Serbia wants to host another important event: Winning the bid would be significant
It takes place one year before EXPO 2027
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali spoke on Thursday in Belgrade with Treasurer of the International Economic Association Omar Licandro about Serbia's candidacy to host the 11th World Congress of the International Economic Association in 2026.
This event would represent a significant opportunity for Serbia to position itself as a key player in the global economic community, Mali announced on Instagram after the meeting.
"In order to increase the chances of hosting such an important event, the Serbian government has sent a letter expressing its desire and intention to host representatives of the world economic community in 2026, among whom would be big names from international economics, such as numerous Nobel laureates," he stated.
The central points of discussion during the meeting, which are extremely important both for Serbia and for the region, were the upcoming world exhibition Expo 2027, regional cooperation in the context of the EU growth agenda, as well as the importance of financial and general education.
"Equally important is the focus on capital investments, which is the essence of our economic development. Investments in infrastructure, energy and renewable sources transform our economy and create new opportunities for the growth and prosperity of our country," said Mali.
