Vucic believes Macron will visit Serbia soon: Good opportunity to discuss everything
Vucic also says that as far as Serbia is concerned, he does not expect many conclusions and that it seems to him that everyone in Europe is in some kind of "war mode" and mood
President Aleksandar Vucic said last night that, during the summit of the European Political Community in London, he will meet with President of France Emmanuel Macron, adding that he believes Macron's visit to Serbia will be arranged soon.
"I assume that there will be more bilateral meetings (during the summit), we will have panels, a good opportunity to discuss everything and I believe that we will agree on the details of the upcinung visit of President Macron to Serbia," Vucic told RTS and confirmed that he will also meet with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof.
The president announced that he will attend the central summit and at the panels, which usually usually feature arguments, friction and everything else, much less so during the central gatherings where British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and most certainly Volodimir Zelensky will speak, as well as two or three EU leaders.
"It will be interesting because tomorrow, for the first time, the summit of the European Political Community will be held as it is assumed that Ursula von Der Leyen will not be there. If she is, everyone will follow closely what is happening in the European Parliament, because around noon a decision should be made on the future head of the European Commission," said the president.
Vucic added that as far as Serbia is concerned, he does not expect many conclusions and that it seems to him that everyone in Europe is in some kind of "war mode" and mood.
"It is important for us to have good relations with Europe, to push further, to develop our country economically, to see if we can progress on the EU path, and all this other stuff - to get out of the way as much as possible," said Vucic.
Asked to comment on the fact that apart from Georgia, Serbia is the only country present at the summit that has not imposed sanctions against Russia, and whether he expects pressure to change that position, Vucic said that Serbia will be under greatest scrutiny.
"Now we will see whether the president of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, who is against such a policy will come, or whether the prime minister who is in favor of this policy, that is, against sanctions, will arrive. It's certainly clear to you that Serbia will be under greatest scrutiny. We are in the heart, in the center of Europe, Georgia is a little farther away, so it will definitely be discussed and I have no doubt that Russia and Ukraine will be the main topics," said Vucic.
He said that the European Political Community was not a bad idea because it serves not to offer much those who are on the EU path, but still gives them the opportunity to speak in front of representatives of the European Union once every six months and be able to express what what they think.
"I don't think it's bad, I think it's all okay, but there are no big results, and there won't be any. If you're launching a campaign against Viktor Orban at this moment because he talked to someone, what's the point of everything? What do you expect from Serbia? To join such criticism? Well we won't. To pledge loyalty, to do I don't know what against China? Yes, we belong there, the only thing is we have a brain of our own and we think in a rational and serious way," said Vucic.
He added that it will be difficult to make it to the reception with King Charles.
"I am very sorry that we could not attend last time because of all the problems we had in Belgrade regarding the two cases of mass murder, because we had to return to Belgrade a little earlier," explained Vucic.
