Prime Minister Vucevic target of cyber-attack: Criminal charges against unknown person who used his image

Artificial intelligence was used to generate a non-existent statement supposedly made by Prime Minister Milos Vucevic, where his image was misused, while the generated voice spoke about non-existent Government projects

A fake video of Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic has been posted on the account "Corvus01" on Facebook.

As stated in the press release from the prime minister's office, artificial intelligence was used to generate a non-existent statement supposedly made by Prime Minister Milos Vucevic, where his image was misused, while the generated voice spoke about non-existent Government projects.

"The Ministry of Internal Affairs, i.e. the police officers from the SBPVTK technical administration, contacted the company Meta in order to remove the said posts and get information about the administrator of the account," the statement said.

It is stressed that a criminal complaint has been filed against an unknown person and that work is being done to establish their identity.

Higher Public Prosecutor's Office reacts

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office has also reacted regarding the case. They stated that the special department for high-tech crime submitted a request to the police to collect the necessary information.

"With the aforementioned request, the removal of the account in question on the social network was requested from service provider Meta Platforms, with prior collection of data about the account and its use. The Special Department for High Tech Crime of the Higher Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade is appealing on citizens to be careful while using the internet, while reading, watching and listening to content. If, as a result of this or similar events, they are deceived into doing something to their own detriment, they should file a complaint by going to the prosecutor's office or via the e-mail vtk@vtk.jt.rs," the statement said.
