EU's High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Josep Borrell has said in Luxembourg that the European Union is ready to deepen the gradual integration of the Western Balkans and extend support to partners from the Western Balkans, but that he is telling them to be with the EU in defeding international order.
He said after a meeting of EU foreign affairs ministers that this particularly refers to the situation around Ukraine and "the measures that are being implemented to oppose the Russian invasion."
Borrell stressed that alignment of the Western Balkans countries with EU's foreign policy is considered "an expression of their strategic choice of commitment to membership."
He also stated that maintaining close ties with "the regime of Russian President Vladimir Putin is not compatible with building a common future with and within the European Union."
An informal meeting of ministers of foreign affairs of the European Union member countries and representatives of the Western Balkan region was held in Luxembourg on Monday, which was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Marko Djuric.
During the meeting, among other things, opinions were exchanged about the Western Balkans, with participation of foreign ministers from Serbia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and so-called Kosovo.
