During Serbia's first game in Group C against England, Kostic was hit in the knee while vying for the ball with Trent Alexander Arnold, after which he ended up on the grass.

It turned out that it was a serious injury, and that was evidently clear to Kostic himself, because he teared up when he left the pitch after the medical team came to help him.

It all happened at the end of the first half, Kostic was out in the 43rd minute, when he was replaced by Filip Mladenovic, and that would turn out to be Kostic's only time played during this championship.
