The Serbian football team was defeated by England 0-1 in the first match of Group C at the European Football Championship, EURO 2024, and the game between the two teams was marked by a kind of record, a negative one at that.

Namely, from the beginning of the match, England had the initiative, and from one of the rare chances and shots on goal they managed to score, and then retreated. On the other hand, Serbia attacked, created opportunities, but there was no goal.

In addition, the entire game was marked by an extremely small number of total shots on goal, and all this caught the eye of those dealing with statistics, who said so few shots on goal had not been seen in the last 44 years.

"It wasn't a game for the neutral, with only 11 shots taken overall – six to Serbia, five for England. That tally is the lowest on record in a European Championship match, fewer than every one of the other 322 matches in the competition since 1980," posted Opta Analyst.
