M.V. (36) is a citizen of Lithuania, and is suspected of trying to benefit by enabling a large number of persons to illegally cross the state border between Serbia and Romania, via the Vatin border crossing.

A statement said that this happened on May 10, and that the border police prevented the attempt.

The defendant is accused of having committed the criminal offense of illegal crossing of the state border and attempted people smuggling. If found guilty he could be sentenced from two to twelve years in prison.

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Pancevo proposed in the indictment that the Higher Court in Pancevo should extend M.V.'s detention, as he is considered a flight risk.

It was also proposed that the court should punish the defendant according to the law, impose security measures on him, confiscate the goods and the truck with the trailer, as well as order him to pay legal costs.
