Mother and child brutally assaulted in Sarajevo because of Red Star shirt: Attackers ripped it off by force
To make matters worse, none of the numerous passers-by reacted while the hooligans harassed them. The police qualified the act as violent behavior
Two hooligans attacked a woman and her child in the center of Sarajevo because of a t-shirt the child was wearing with the incription "Delije Sever" (Delije North - Red Star Belgrade supporters), reports Atvbl.rs.
The attack on a woman and her 14-year-old son took place yesterday in the city center. To make matters worse, none of the numerous passers-by reacted while the hooligans harassed them.
"My 14-year-old and I were attacked in front of the SSC in central Sarajevo near the common institutions because the child was wearing a t-shirt with a Red Star logo on it. They grabbed the child, took off his t-shirt by force, pushed me away violently so that I fell and hurt my knees and hands. They lost their minds when they saw the t-shirt with the Red Star symbols. 'I'll kill you, I'll hurt you, take off the Chetnik (a term meant to pejoratively describe Serbs) shirt, what did you put on, take it off'. The kid felt uncomfortable stripping naked. So in the end, they took it off by force and ran away with it," the mother told ATV.
It all unfolded at 19:30 yesterday, when a large number of people were out in that part of the city, but no one wanted to help.
"Believe me, no one approached us. Literally no one. Neither myself, nor the child. They went their way, they didn't even look back. I got up and called the police. They came quickly. I also entered the SSC and called the guard. That entrance is covered by video surveillance and I hope the police will be able to identify them," the boy's mother told ATV.
The police qualified the act as violent behavior, but the mother told ATV that it was pure hatred.
"I told them that it was not classic violent behavior, it was literally ethnic intolerance. They saw that we were not Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims). It said on the t-shirt, in small letters, 'Delije Sever'. The case has been reported to the Sarajevo Canton police. I only just became aware of where we live and who we live with. I had been refusing to admit to myself that there are such bad people," the mother told ATV.
