Engine drivers Misha Radojevic and Jovana Stojanovic managed to stop their 1,000-ton locomotive in time on the Dimitrovgrad-Nis railway in order not to kill a living creature that someone had chained to the tracks.

The small, weak dog, that has since been nicknamed Zucha ( Serbian for, "yellow one") on social networks, was chained to the tracks, helplessly awaiting a terrifying death. However, Jovana spotted him in time and drew Misha's attention to the fact that there was a living creature in the path of their train.

"This happened in Bela Palanka near the entrance signal from the direction of Nis. In particular, a (woman) colleague traveling with me (also an engine driver) saw that something was on the track, and said that it was possibly a dog. Considering that this is the section of the railway that is being repaired, the reduced speed allowed us to react in time and save the dog," said Misha, describing the shocking situation.

The engine drivers' feat thrilled Serbia, but the fact that someone would so cruelly go out of their way to condemn an innocent animal to a horrible death at the same time horrified the public.

May the goodness of Misha and Jovana overshadow that terrible act, and light the way for us to be the people equal to who we are - protecting the weak and fighting against what's evil.
