"This is why we aren't speaking, my husband and I agreed": Mother of missing Danka (2) opens up
On the eighth day of the search for Danka, the mother spoke
The search for the 2-year-old girl Danka Ilic, who disappeared exactly seven days ago in Banjsko Polje in Bor, is still ongoing. The police are constantly combing every inch of the place where the toddler was last seen, and one segment of the investigation is focused on a video taken by a Serbian citizen in Vienna, which is suspected to show the missing child.
Ivana Ilic, the mother, spoke publicly for the first time since Danka disappeared, and told Nova.rs whether she saw the video, but also how much she is hurt by media speculation that she is behind everything.
Ivana said that she and her husband are there for each other, that they fight every day for their child to return home as soon as possible, but also that for days there have been numerous rumors about her.
"We are holding it together as much as we can, just so that Danka can be found as soon as possible. We are waiting for all this to end, we hope for the best, and then my husband and I will speak publicly, and answer all the insults, name-calling, the nonsense. That is why we are not reacting and I am hurt by all this speculation, the blaming of me and my husband," said a depressed Ivana.
Ivana revealed what was is behind the reporting of certain tabloids, namely that the examination of her phone showed that she searched for information about border crossings with Romania, but also to what extent she can be held criminally responsible.
"The phone was taken for an expert examination, I'll just say that. If that was the case (what reports are saying), I wouldn't be a mother looking for my child, my status would be different. Only for Danka to come back alive and well, and then we'll talk about everything," Ivana told Nova.rs.
When asked if she saw the video from Vienna, which allegedly shows her child, Ivana said that she did.
"I watched the video, but I am not allowed to make comments in the interest of the investigation. Kudos to the police, they aren't getting any sleep, they search day and night. I hope that we will hug our child as soon as possible," says the mother of the missing Danka.
When asked if she hopes that her child is well, Ivana says that she will not believe otherwise.
"I don't even want to think about another option," concludes Ivana.
Danka Ilic, less than two years old, disappeared last week from the property owned by the Dragomirovic family in Vojvode Radomira Putnika Street in the Banjsko Polje settlement, near the town of Bor in eastern Serbia.
Last Tuesday, Ivana's mother arrived at the property, which is rather rundown, bringing along her 3-year-old son and the daughter, who has not yet turned 2.
The woman told the police that at one point she went to fetch her son a drink of water and that during that time the girl disappeared.
