The founder of the Movement of Socialists, Aleksandar Vulin, said today that President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic is the only free leader in Europe who can say that he will not impose sanctions against the Russian Federation, and will instead listen to his people.

In a major interview for Russia's RIA Novosti, Aleksandar Vulin said that President Aleksandar Vucic is the only free leader in Europe who can say that.

"President Vucic is the only free statesman in Europe. The only free statesman who can say that he will not impose sanctions against the Russian Federation and that he will listen to his people, that is the position of the Serb people, we do not want to be part of the anti-Russian hysteria," stressed Vulin, adding that Vucic is facing a lot of pressure and blackmail from the West because of his independent policy.

"Pressure is great, it always start with media attacks, and then they get to the economy, by withdrawing direct foreign investments, slowing down investments, making conditions, slowing down our EU path, all the way to attacks on individual officials. For this reason, I was put on the US sanctions list and that's why I ultimately resigned as head of the BIA (Serbian security agency) because I didn't want the sanctions against me to affect Serbia. They are doing all these things to President Vucic, from the media, the economy, to direct threats of political disappearance, and you know that this can often happen be a threat to somebody's physical survival," said Aleksandar Vulin.

He stressed that Vucic would be the most highly valued man in the West if he imposed sanctions against Russia, but that he does not want to do that.

"If President Vucic were to impose sanctions against Russia, he would be the most highly valued man in the West, they would praise him, they would love him, they would consider everything he does to be perfect and good, but President Vucic simply won't do it," Aleksandar Vulin told RIA Novosti.
