Aca Stojanovic gave touching teary-eyed eulogy at Dejan Milojevic's funeral, mourners cry at cemetery
Extremely moving...
Belgrade is grieving, Serbia is grieving, but the whole of Europe is also grieving, and even the world. Everyone is saying goodbye to Dejan Milojevic, the legendary basketball player and coach who died on January 17 in Salt Lake City after suffering a heart attack from which he could not recover.
Three and a half weeks have passed since he died, and the coffin with the body arrived in Belgrade where the funeral was held at the New Cemetery.
Big stars from the world of basketball attended, and the speech at the cemetery was given by well-known Serbian sports commentator Aca Stojanovic, which was extremely touching and brought almost everyone to tears.
"When we think about all the things we haven't said, we search ourselves for words and how we should feel, and Deki has gone. We have been losing you for 25 days, I feel guilty, sad, maybe because I didn't tell you, like in that message that didn't reach you, the same one sent by your friends. I looked at people, I look at them now, from the bench at school, to the bench at the court, and I see that you brought human beings together.
You know why it's different, tomorrow they will talk about how many people were here. These are not just people, people's souls showed up here to see you off. You know why it's different, because we stand here not to show what you were like, but to prove that we are worthy of you. Well, that's how you were. To show that we are worthy of the family, first of all.
You made people shine, you made the game shine, I don't know much about life, you always saw things better than I do, I believe that's how it was with others, that's why I liked to listen to you, there are things I won't forget. When you chose your wife based on how much she laughs, because you wanted joy. When you said that if you are not the best at basketball, you will do something else. When you said that it is important to be happy regardless of money, because the parents could live anywhere, but live in the old neighborhood. That there are no highlights because you scored from sitters.
You made others better, not better, but happier. It is a rare gift, so far only four national anthems have been played in the NBA. Played for countries and nations, only two nations, one was played for a man, for you. As Nikola said, you were everything to everyone, but you were something to us. I know you are watching from above and you immediately put the angels from above in their positions, and we all know where the boss is. I have two requests, if you could watch over us, we don't know of a better one to do it.
"But from tomorrow, Deki, now the whole world knows because of you what is the best known phrase in the Serbian language, and it was in thousands of messages, and it is, "I love you, brother". You taught us to love, to listen, to love each other and take care of each other, you told us to be dedicated and strong, but happy. But in the end... Deki, I'm just going to ask you one more thing. I want you to allow us to say goodbye to you in this place, just one more time, in sadness. Glory eternal and thank you," an emotional Aca Stojanovic said, in a trembling voice.
