Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic says that, according to unofficial information, the UN Security Council meeting dedicated to the situation in Kosovo and Metohija will be open to the public. He pointed out that we will be represented by President Aleksandar Vucic.

During these past two days, Dacic told RTS, we witnessed intense behind-the-scenes games and pressure within the Security Council aimed at making sure the Guyana presidency scheduled a closed session.

The extraordinary session of the UN Security Council on the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, at the request of Serbia, will be held on Thursday starting at 9 pm our time (Central European). On Monday, Serbia submitted a request to the UN mission of Guyana to convene the session because of the the situation in Kosovo and Metohija.

Minister Dacic said there was big pressure to keep the meeting behind closed doors.

"As for the procedure itself, we have witnessed in these two days fierce backroom games and pressure within the Security Council for the Guyana presidency to schedule a closed session," added Dacic.

"Western countries and those from the EU are of the opinion that the session should be closed for reasons known only to them. In other words, we believe that the reason is to prevent the people around the world from hearing what is happening in the area of Kosovo and Metohija, and in order to be able to spread lies (about it)," Dacic.

He says that this was a very difficult battle for us.

Dacic explained that sessions can be closed or open to the public, as well as that both are official, and there are also private ones. He indicated that these countries justified the request for a closed session by the fact that the same had happened before.

"It's true that it happened in the past, but in the period from 2012 until today, we never agreed to a closed session," Dacic added.

He said that the president's cabinet and the ministry tried their best to exert influence through diplomatic contacts so that if there is a vote, Serbia will have a certain number on its side.

He also stressed that the presidency of Guyana decided whether the session would be open or closed, but there could also be a vote.

"In the beginning, there were talks and several countries asked that the session be closed. We spoke with those countries that did not recognize Kosovo, but the key event happened after the conversation I had with the minister of foreign affairs of Guyana, it has not been officially announced yet, but he told me that Guyana, as a presiding country, scheduled the session for Thursday in an open format, without a vote on this," says Dacic.

The minister stressed that Serbia will be represented by President Aleksandar Vucic.
