Former KLA member Haxhi Shala transported to special court in The Hague
Shala was arrested yesterday and taken to the EULEX offices in Kosovo Polje
Former MP from the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, and before that a member of the former KLA ("Kosovo Liberation Army") in the area of Malisevo, Haxhi Shala, has been taken to the special court (Specialist Chambers) in The Hague, his lawyer Xhevdet Smakiqi has confirmed.
This has been reported by the media in Pristina.
"An hour ago, he took a plane to The Hague," Smakiqi said briefly, RTS reports.
Smakiqi said about the detaining of Shala on Monday that he "believes that he was not questioned, and that he was simply stopped, because otherwise he would have contacted him, as his lawyer."
Shala was arrested yesterday and taken to the EULEX offices in Kosovo Polje.
Before taking him away, EULEX special officers searched his property in the village of Banja near Malisevo.
His brother announced that Shala is suspected of the criminal act of obstruction of justice, but that there is no official confirmation from the special court.
The court was set up to investigate KLA crimes committed in Kosovo and Metohija against non-Albanians in 1998 and 1999.
