Lim River again polluted near Priboj: Flood wave brings piles of garbage
There are even fragments of tombstones amongst the garbage
Dramatic images are coming again from the Lim River near Priboj, because a flood wave has again brought huge amounts of garbage, stranded at a chain barrier.
"It is estimated that there are about 10,000 cubic meters of garbage and various types of waste in the river. We have already arrived at the scene, carried out the observation and have timely checked and prepared the chain (barrier) for receiving a huge amount of garbage," Sinisa Lakovic from the ecological organization the Citizens' Association "Jastreb" told RINA.
He added that the situation is being monitored on an hourly basis and that the reaction of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Srbijavode and EPS is awaited in order to start with the clean-up so that another "ecological bomb" doesn't go off.
"We must react quickly considering that more heavy rainfall has been forecast," Lakovic stressed.
Most of the garbage comes to the Lim in Priboj, southwestern Serbia, during flood waves upstream in Montenegro - because in the north of that country, along the course of the river, there are many illegal landfills, so all kinds of things get stranded at the barrier in Priboj, sometimes even fragments of tombstones.
