West Nile fever, a disease that develops from a virus transmitted by mosquitoes, has claimed two lives in Serbia this season.

One person died in Juznobacki Okrug (South Backa District), and another in Zapadnobacki Okrug (Western Backa Dirstrict) - both in northern Serbia.
Over the last 7 days, the virus has been confirmed in two more people in the country, and the total number of patients this season, as of October 14, was 89, according to data from the Batut Institute of Public Health of Serbia.
Most cases are in Belgrade (22), while the Juznobacki District has reported 24 so far.
Most of the patients are men - 52, along with 37 women.
These patients are between 18 and 89 years of age.
