Long-awaited moment is approaching: Djokovic starts new week at top spot, he's close to making history, again!
Alcaraz reduced the gap, but is still well behind
Weeks go by, and Novak Djokovic continues to count them, at the top of the ATP list. The title at the US Open marked his return to the tennis throne, which he seems to have no plans to leave anytime soon.
He will have his work cut out for the rest of the season as Carlos Alcaraz is not defending much, but for now we can say that in the latest ATP ranking Nole has started his 394th week in the top spot and is close to the magical number of 400.
After a week during which he did not defend the title won in Tel Aviv, Djokovic is not defending the points earned in Astana either, and he currently has 11,545, almost 3,000 more than Carlos Alcaraz, who has a chance to reduce the gap after the Masters in Shanghai.
Behind the said duo is Daniil Medvedev, while Jannik Sinner is now best-ranked ever in his career, in fourth, after winning the title in Beijing in a final played against the Russian.
This is why Holger Rune, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev each lost one place, while Taylor Fritz, Casper Rud and Alexander Zverev complete the top ten. The biggest "jump" in the top 30 was that by Adrian Mannarino, who progressed 11 places to the No. 23 spot.
