The best tennis player of all time, Novak Djokovic reached the semifinals of the US Open after a convincing victory over Taylor Fritz and continues his quest for the 24th Grand Slam title.

Already after Novak's first victory at the US Open, it was clear that he would snatch the No. 1 spot from Carlos Alcaraz, who is defending 2,000 points in New York after winning to the title last year.

And then Novak continued to increase his advantage from round to round.

According to the current list, after Novak progressed to the semifinals, he has 10,515 points, while Carlos Aclaraz has 8,175, which is quite a difference, and could mean Novak securing the 1st place at the end of the year.

The situation is not at all easy for Alcaraz, because he has an extremely difficult task in the quarterfinals against the "reborn" Alexander Zverev, who is playing great this year in New York, knocking out Jannik Sinner in the previous match and is one of the favorites "from the shadows."

If he defeats Zverev, Alcaraz will face a new serious challenge, as he would play against Daniil Medvedev or Andrey Rublev, who showed top form at this year's US Open.

If Djokovic were to beat Ben Shelton, he would reach 10,995 points, and if he wins the tournament, he will have 11,795. With those points, if Alcaraz does not reach the final, Novak would almost certainly ensure ending the year at the No. 1 spot, thereby increasing his record and doing this for the eight time, two years more than Sampras and three more than Federer, Nadal and Connors.
