One person was killed while two were seriously injured in an explosion on the 4th floor of a residential building, and the first results of the investigation indicate that several kilograms of explosives were activated in an apartment.

A brother and sister were injured in the incident.

"A 25-year-old man has multiple injuries from shrapnel, there are pieces of shrapnel all over his body, in his head, chest, abdomen and extremities. After initial diagnostics, we performed surgery and removed several shrapnel from his front abdominal wall. Fortunately, there is no injury to internal organs, no internal bleeding and his life is not in danger.

But both his eyes are injured and he will most likely lose sight in one permanently, the diagnostic of the other is ongoing and we will see what the colleagues in Belgrade will do, whether they will manage to save his sight," Dr. Zeljko Smiljanic, assistant director of the General Hospital Smederevo, told Kurir.

According to Dr. Smiljanic, the young man was conscious and communicative all the time.

"He was in a state of shock, but he was able to provide all information about himself," said Dr. Smiljanic.

A young woman, 22, has multiple cuts on her body.

"Initial diagnostic was done and there are no signs of damage to vital organs, the general condition is stable and she is out of danger. There are cuts on the head and hands, everywhere. There was no need for any surgical intervention," says Dr. Smiljanic.

It all took place around 8:30 pm last night in an apartment on the 4th floor of a building in Slobode Street in Smederevo. The explosion was so bad that it was heard for miles around, and shards of glass and pieces of carpentry and facade were flying in all directions.

One of the residents was about 20 meters from the building when it happened. As the locals testify, even though she was quite far away, the glass reached her. They saw her running towards the building, calling her son who was in their apartment.

"That woman's apartment does not exist, there is nothing left, everything was demolished, they shared a wall... All that is not important, thank God her son is alive", say the locals as they closely watch teams of forensic experts carry out the investigation.
