The Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Smederevo submitted a proposal to detain G.P. (36) on reasonable suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of violating family obligations and the criminal offense of neglecting and abusing a minor.

Namely, it is suspected that during 2023, the defendant left his mother, who is 59 years old and has been ill and bedridden for a long period of time and unable to take care of herself, in a difficult position, as a result of which a serious deterioration of the victim's health occurred, since she was left unattended in unhygienic conditions, in a part of the house that as a whole is not suitable for living.

After being informed by the emergency ward of the General Hospital in Smederevo, and after the injured party was admitted to the said ward in a disoriented state and with visible injuries to her body, an investigation was carried out by order of the public prosecutor, during which it was determined that the woman had visible injuries in the form of open wounds and hematomas, caused by long-term lying in inadequate conditions, on a broken bed that was soaked in urine and feces.

At the same time, the defendant is accused of forcing his 9-year-old son to do excessive work unsuitable to his age, in such a way that he forced the minor victim to prepare meals for his grandmother himself, as well as for his 11-year-old sister who is developmentally disabled, to clean feces from the room where his grandmother was, unable to get out of bed and take care of herself and her physiological needs independently, as well as perform other tasks which are not in accordance with their age.

According to the order of the public prosecutor, the defendant was first detained, and then held due to the special circumstances that indicate that he would interfere with the proceedings by influencing witnesses, as well as that he would repeat the criminal offense within a short period of time.

Depending on the specific form of the above-mentioned criminal offense, a prison sentence of up to three or up to five years is envisaged.
