Novak Djokovic beat Gael Monfils 6-3, 6-2 and reached the quarterfinals of tournament in Cincinnati. With this triumph he also broke a world record, because this was Monfils' 19th defeat in as many matches he played against the Serbian.

Djokovic thus became the record holder for the number of victories over one rival without any defeats.

After losing his 19th match against Novak, the Frenchman wanted to have somethin gto remember this negative record by. Squaring off 19 times against the best tennis player of all time is no small thing, nor is making history, even in this way.

So Monfils asked Novak to autograph on the shirt which he wore during the match.

Djokovic signed his name, wrote the number 19, as well as the date of the match, and there was also a humorous message. "Sorry not sorry," he wrote, and added a smiley to that.

Monfils himself posted on social networks that it was a pleasure to play against the GOAT, as he referred to Novak, but that his game was below par.

"Maybe this wasn't the match I was hoping for against the GOAT, but it's still an honor and a pleasure to face Novak Djokovic. Despite everything, it remains a positive week. I will rest to be fit for the US Open. Thank you so much for your incredible support," Monfils wrote.

Novak will play against Taylor Fritz in the Cincinnati quarterfinals in the night between Friday and Saturday, European time.

The US Open will be played from August 28 to September 10.
