Vucic: Why we need National Stadium and other projects
The president reminded of the difficult situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) for our people and the sanctions against the state leadership in the RS (Serb Republic)
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic was on Sunday a guest on TV Pink. At the beginning of his address, he referred to the criticism regarding the projects that have been presented recently.
"I expected that a good part of them would say that they want to participate in the great uplifting of Serbia. In the projects, 1,000 people have ideas about what to do in their towns," said Vucic at the beginning.
The president reminded of the difficult situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) for our people and the sanctions against the state leadership in the RS (Serb Republic, Serb entity in BiH):
"At the same time, you have Kurti's attempts to raise the spirits of unrest, not only in North Macedonia, but also in the south of Serbia, and all this with the tacit support of the international community," said Vucic.
He spoke about the criticism of why stadiums are being built rather than hospitals.
"We built a new Clinical Center (KC) in Nis, which provides us with complete health care in the south of Serbia, we built a new KC here in Belgrade, we are expanding part of KC Vojvodina, the one in Kragujevac is also starting to be built," he said.
The president recalled that no hospitals were built before 2012.
"Which hospital did you build before 2012," Vucic asked his critics.
"From the Zemun High School to Bela Palanka. We are opening the most modern school in Sjenica, it will have a swimming pool. We invest in schools. And why stadiums? Because we don't have enough stadiums. Because people love football," he added.
Speaking about infrastructure projects, he recalled the work on the Ruma-Sabac highway, but also the railway to Nis, which should be completed by 2027.
"Terrible tragedy happened in FBiH, killer was no child but someone with extensive police record"
He spoke about the crime that shook the region, which was committed last Friday Nermin Sulejmanovic.
"A terrible tragedy has happened. Three dead, four wounded, that was not done by a 12-year-old child. This is someone who had an extensive police record.
"No one is intervening. Have you heard anyone call for resignations over there? You haven't," added Vucic.
"I will not sign a law that allows third gender"
"As long as I am the president, I will not sign a law allowing for the possibility of recognizing a third gender, which is neither a woman nor a man," said Vucic.
He added that the prime minister of Serbia advocates for the rights of the LGBT population, but that he believes that Serbia is a traditional society and that it is not ready for such a big change in this regard, although he stressed that he respects all differences and that everyone has the right to choose.
"I asked the prime minister not to sign a same-sex marriage (law) while I am president. So, don't attack Ana Brnabic, I didn't allow it. We are a traditional society, that is not possible here after all. As long as I am the president, it is not," Vucic said.
