"Bike was crumpled, child was thrown 50 meters away": Drunk driver causes horrific tragedy near Sabac
The drunk driver is currently in police custody for up to 48 hours
"There was nothing left of the bicycle that the girl was riding. I saw it crumpled on the road, they tell me that the force of the impact threw her as far as 50 meters away. I have known the child since birth, this is a great tragedy...," says a woman, an eyewitness who is the first passed on the road after the accident in Bogosavac near Sabac.
L.C., a 14-year-old, died in the hospital last night. The police arrested the driver, L.M. (22), who was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
Telegraf.rs has learned that the girl was riding a bicycle from Sabac towards the village of Bogosavac. Unofficially information says that the driver of a Ford Fiesta most likely swerved off the road, and then hit the girl as he was getting the car back on the road.
"We saw the driver, he was in shock. He was crying, calling out to the little girl... He seemed to be drunk... He was holding his head. We know him from the village, nothing like this has ever happened to him," says one of the locals.
L.M. will be questioned tomorrow about the circumstances of the accident.
His car has been sent for expert examination.
The police and emergency services first received the report about the accident from by a guard working at the Bogosavac prison.
