Alcaraz admitted that he admired Novak from a young age and that he grew up watching him win big trophies and play in the finals against the biggest rivals.
He later repeated that at the news conference, and he made the most impressive statement in one of the interviews after winning the cup, when he honestly said told Tennis Channel that he still considers Novak the best in the world, even though after winning the title at Wimbledon he consolidated the first place on the ATP list with 880 points more than Djokovic.
"You always said that to be the best, you have to beat the best. Now you are the best, you beat the best. What is it like to be the best now and everyone wants to beat you," was the journalist's question.
"I still consider Novak the best. I have to beat him more than once or twice, it's probably different for other players. For some, I'm the best and I'm everyone's target, but I my eye on Novak and I want to play more times against him, it's really phenomenal when I'm on the court with him. But like I said, to be the best, I have to beat the best," Alcaraz said.
