Bishop Teodosije of Raska-Prizren met yesterday in the medieval Serbian Orthodox monastery of Gracanica in Kosovo and Metohija with the British ambassador in Pristina, Nicholas Abbott, to whom he expressed his deepest concerns about the accusations made by a member of the British parliament, Alicia Kearns, at the expense of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC).

Kearns previously made claims that illegal weapons were brought in from central Serbia through Serbian Orthodox churches in the north of Kosovo.

The bishop particularly stressed that this claim, which was in the meantime denied by KFOR, has worsened the safety of the SPC in Kosovo and Metohija many times over and that it can seriously complicate the process of de-escalation of tensions in the north of Kosovo, and dialogue, the Eparchy of Raska-Prizren announced, reports Tanjug.

The bishop repeated the position of the Serbian Orthodox Church of advocating for peace among all people in Kosovo and Metohija and of not allowing any abuse or political manipulation of the Serb churches.

Abbott expressed his concern about the current events in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, mentioning the important role of the SPC in improving relations between communities, and stressed the urgent need for de-escalation, a statement added.

British member of parliament and chair of the foreign affairs select committee Alicia Kearns accused the Serbian Orthodox Church of participating in the smuggling of weapons from (central) Serbia to Kosovo.

Pristina media wrote on Wednesday that Kearns recently met in London with the prime minister of Pristina's provisional institutions, Albin Kurti.
