Vucic: Kurti was undoubtedly defeated in Kosovo, there's been tectonic changes; Serbs want real dialogue
What happened yesterday is much more than that, the Serb people showed that they are looking for a completely different approach, primarily from the international community, says Vucic
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said in his address today that on Sunday, not only an unequivocal defeat of Albin Kurti and his regime took place in Kosovo and Metohija (during elections in the north), but that tectonic changes also happened in Kosovo.
"What happened yesterday is much more than that, the Serb people showed that they are looking for a completely different approach, primarily from the international community, I have Western powers in mind - they (Serbs) are looking for greater respect and for real dialogue, not for imposing of solutions," Vucic stressed as he addressed citizens.
He said that he will not only present an analysis of, as he said, some sort of election results, but an analysis of the tectonic changes that happened yesterday in Kosovo and Metohija.
The president added that the Serbs declared themselves decisively yesterday with an estimated 99.97 percent (boycotting the vote), which has not happened anywhere in the world. The electoral register has 45,095 Serbs, a total of 13 voted, of which two he says did so by mistake, so that makes for a 0.029 percent turnout among the Serbs.
"What's interesting is that a significantly lower number of Albanians, too, turned out," the president added.
He then said that no one from the West had listened to the Serbs, and that we in Belgrade sometimes did not understand them enough in terms of how difficult their position is.
"We didn't have enough time to hear out their problems and struggles, they said in a referendum-like way which country they want to live in, but also showed the world that it has understood nothing," said Vucic.
He also stressed that the most important message for us and the world is that there is no essential dialogue.
"We don't talk, we get papers imposed on us that are always in favor of Pristina, and when we tell them that something is happening in Kosovo and Metohija, they say it's Vucic's nonsense. You never really wanted to listen to the Serbs, so it is our duty to listen to them. In the coming days, we will work on how to best protect the interests of Serb," he pointed out.
The president announced that will most likely go to Brussels on May 2, stressing that he has not made the final decision yet.
"We will protect the position of our people and the interests of our people, respect the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia, and - real dialogue! We need a real conversation with Albanians and with Europeans, a conversation about our national and state issues. I am afraid that this is the prelude to a much bigger crisis in the years ahead," he said and added, referring to the Europeans:
"The most important conclusion is to stop deceiving the Serbs, if you are not able to do that, I am afraid it will get more difficult for all of us... I want to thank the people in Kosovo and Metohija because they patiently endured the presence of occupying forces in Kosovo and Metohija, not throwing a stone at them, not giving anyone an unfriendly look, instead with the strength of their will they showed that they are not insignificant."
He also said that one should always look to preserve peace, and that yesterday presented the best picture of a fake democracy, not only Pristina's, but of Western democracy as well.
"They disputed (our results) even when they were 50 percent, and imagine if we had 3.4 percent. This shows what not twilight, but darkness looks like when it comes to democracy, and anything goes just to humiliate the Serbs. But this also showed that the Serbs are a strong, serious and responsible people who know how to protect their interests despite threats that are not negligible. The most important thing is to preserve peace, the occupation must come to an end eventually. We are the ones who choose the end of the occupation, they are no longer the ones who decide," said Vucic.
