Installation of voting containers has started in the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo and Metohija.
Voting centers for early local elections in four municipalities in the north of Kosovo and Metohija will be in the containers, the installation of which began on Wednesday, as previously announced by the Central Election Commission from Pristina, and it is expected that the polling stations will also be in improvised facilities in multi-ethnic settlements, which will be secured by strong forces of the Kosovo police.
Elections will be held on April 23, to elect mayors in the municipalities in northern Kosovska Mitrovica, Zubin Potok, Zvecan and Leposavic, as well as councilors in Leposavic and Zvecan. Although the largest party that gathers Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, the Serb List, is not participating and although analysts assess that the majority of Serbs will not cast their ballots, foreign embassies and organizations have decided to recognize the voting results.
Apart from the candidates from the two largest political parties that gather Albanians in the southern Serbian province, the Democratic Party and the Self-Determination Movement, as well as the Citizens' Initiative for Mitrovica Betim Osmani, independent candidate Sladjana Pantovic is running for mayor of Zvecan and Aleksandar Jablanovic from the Party of Kosovo Serbs will participate in the elections in a bid to become the mayor of Leposavic.
