This is the escape tunnel dug by Macedonian inmates: It even had lighting
A group of at least eight inmates from Idrizovo prison in North Macedonia were preparing to escape, so they dug a tunnel
The police in North Macedonia have published footage showing what appears to be a tunnel at least 40 meters long, which the inmates dug with the intention of escaping from the prison.
The Ministry of the Interior received information that a group of at least eight inmates, who are serving prison sentences in Idrizovo and have been convicted of criminal acts, were preparing to escape.
All inmates were sentenced to a minimum of ten years, and some to life in prison.
The police carried out a major operation yesterday morning and found the tunnel. Apparently, it was still a few meters short of reaching the main partition wall of the prison.
According to the local media, the tunnel started from the promenade in the closed part of the prison, and led "to the other side of the fence."
According to initial unofficial information, the tunnel was well designed and had support beams, and the inmates also solved the lighting problem by installing a cable with lamps.
