Don't throw away food, everything that's unopened and unexpired can be given to the hungry at 2 locations
The space for the fridge was given to the Zemun Red Cross and is located at Gradski Park 2, at the entrance to Zemun Park
The second "community fridge" for the hungry has been installed in Zemun, Belgrade, with the aim of reducing food waste and helping those who need food the most.
The fridge is located in the city municipality of Zemun, more precisely at the entrance to the Zemun Park.
Tamara Stojkovic, co-founder of the Community Fridge project, told Tanjug that there is one in front of the Red Cross Zemun, and that the goal to reduce food waste and provide help to those who need it most.
"The first fridge of this kind, a project of the Community Change organization was installed in Dorcol, Belgrade, at Studentski Trg 18, more than a year ago. Citizens can leave factory-packaged and sealed food that's within its expiration date, soft drinks, basic daily necessities such as flour, oil, sugar, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables, while those fellow citizens who need food can take it from the fridge," said Stojkovic.
According to her, what makes this idea special is that it reduces food waste, but also has a humanitarian component to it since it expresses the desire to help those who often do not have access to food.
At the same time, she invited everyone who can join to take a walk to a fridge, donate the extra food they may have, and support this project and their fellow citizens.
"The space for the fridge was given to the Zemun Red Cross and is located at Gradski Park 2, at the entrance to Zemun Park, and it is regularly stocked by Banka Hrane Beograd (Food Bank Belgrade). The initiative has received the support of a large number of organizations and individuals, and there are many who are interested in its further development," said Stojkovic.
She added that in addition to the necessary maintenance of the community fridges, the plan is to expand the project to every municipality in Belgrade, the first of which will be Rakovica.
"We invite citizens to join in and help make the second community refrigerator in Serbia a fantastic success like the previous one, which provided thousands of meals to the most vulnerable citizens last year," said Stojkovic.
