Two children aged two and three died this morning in a terrible fire that broke out in Stara Moravica near Backa Topola. Distraught neighbors say that six children managed to escape, as well as the father, D.I., who allegedly jumped out of the window.

The fire broke out this morning around 8:20 in Stara Moravica, in a house where reports say parents lived with the children.

"Firefighters arrived in front of the house that was burning after receiving a report, but unfortunately the two youngest children had died," says a neighbor.

As he explained, when the fire broke out, the father and his children, eight of them, were in the house.

"I don't know exactly how many children he had, eight or nine, but I know that they are all close in age. I heard that D.I. was with the children, nobody knows where the mother was. I'm beside myself because something like this had to happen because those parents didn't take care of those children at all. They say that D.I. jumped out of the window to save himself and didn't want to go back to get the youngest kids," says the neighbor.

According to him, luckily the older children managed to get out on their own and save themselves from certain death.

"Those two youngest probably suffocated in their sleep," the neighbor said, adding that the firemen extinguished the fire soon after they arrived.
