Aid from Serbia arrives in Syria: More than 6 tons of food for people endangered by the earthquake
We have forgotten, unfortunately, that it often happens that nature is stronger than any human power, and this is a big reminder for all of us. Today we are focused on helping our brothers, our friends in the Syrian Arab Republic
As part of the first shipment, an Air Serbia plane delivered about six tons of groceries and food to the most vulnerable areas of the country, having landed at the airport in Damascus at around 10 o'clock our time today.
Deputy Minister of Local Administration and Environment of Syria Moutaz Douaji welcomed the plane with humanitarian aid from Serbia.
Before the plane took off, Minister Vucevic pointed out that he was proud of our country and all citizens of Serbia who responded to the call to help those who are threatened by the terrible earthquake, the horrific consequences of which we are all witnessing.
"We have forgotten, unfortunately, that it often happens that nature is stronger than any human power, and this is a big reminder for all of us. Today we are focused on helping our brothers, our friends in the Syrian Arab Republic. Respecting the directives of the president of the Republic, the Government of the Republic of Serbia organized the delivery of the first shipment of food for the Syrian people, the people in this country first devastated by war, and now by this terrible and tragic earthquake.
I thank his excellency the ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic in Belgrade for his support, help and joint organization of this delivery. This is only the first contingent, slightly less than six tons of food alone, and the ambassador told me that there are over 100 tons of food collected so far for Syria alone, and I believe that together with Air Serbia and other carriers, we will also organize transport of that during the coming days and weeks, of what is most needed by the Syrian people," pointed out Minister Vucevic.
