The US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, said that he saw some positive reactions in both Belgrade and Pristina to the current plan for solving the Kosovo issue, and that he hopes an agreement will be reached.

"We are still at the very beginning. But I see some positive reactions from both capitals. The reality is that in the current crisis it is not a good idea for Europe to maintain a frozen conflict within its borders. What we are doing is using this proposal as a platform to find a solution that would work for both countries.

And these are solutions that open up the Euro-Atlantic path, protect minority communities and really open up opportunities for economic connection. And that's why I think there is reason for optimism," Escobar told HRT, reports Tanjug.

Speaking about the reactions of Pristina to the proposed agreement with Belgrade, Escobar said that politicians in so-called Kosovo have certain concerns, but he expressed hope that an agreement will be reached.

"They have their worries. I think we still have work to do, but I believe we will reach the goal. Kosovo has the full support of the US, it is a good partner and I don't see any doubts there, I think we will achieve what we want," said Escobar.

The US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans visited Zagreb on Monday, where he spoke with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic about the continuation of bilateral cooperation, the stability of Southeast Europe and the situation in the region.

By visiting Zagreb, Escobar completed his regional tour, during which he visited Belgrade and Pristina, as part of a delegation led by European Union's special representative for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Miroslav Lajcak.
