A young mother who left her one-year-old daughter on the sidewalk in Kragujevac after midnight on Monday has abandoned her child before, say the woman's neighbors.

"It's not her first time. She had left the baby before, but she would come back for her. Now it seems that she really decided to leave her. We are shocked. The child is very small, she is a baby, she doesn't even walk yet... We hope that she will be taken care of properly," say the neighbors.

The father, too, they add, abandoned his daughter.

"We heard that the mother left the baby right next to the building where the father lives, because since he left them, he hasn't even visited the baby," claim the neighbors.

The mother will most likely be questioned today at the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Kragujevac.

The baby was found and saved by a passer-by, Milos Secivanovic. This man from Cacan, who is studying in Kragujevac, had no idea that during his walk he would come across an abandoned child in a pram, only one year old, left behind by her own mother.

After the mother was identified and arrested, Milos spoke for Telegraf.rs and told us what happened in the night between January 9 and 10.

"I was coming back from the gym and at the entrance to the building, next to the street, we saw a pram. My sister was with me, I was not alone. We saw that there was no one there, and then we approached the pram, we thought it was empty, too. When we got closer, we saw the arms moving," says Milos.

Concerned for the child's well-being, they called for help.

"We were scared because we didn't know what was happening, a small child, in the night, a pram and I don't know what to say. We called the police and emergency medical services and stayed by the child's side until they came and took her to the hospital," Milos told us.
