Body and soul are healed here: This spa that lies in between two mountains is unique in Serbia
The healing properties of the waters of Ovcar Banja (Ovcar Spa), whose temperature is between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius, were known even during the Roman rule of the area
Surrounded by the Ovcar and Kablar mountains, about 20 kilometers from Cacak is an area known as "Mt. Athos in Serbia."
The peculiarity of that part of our country is embodied not only in the Ovcar Banja and its healing, thermal-mineral waters, but also in the fact that ten Serbian Orthodox medieval monasteries are located on both sides of a river.
This is exactly what makes Ovcar Banja somewhat unusual and unique. In addition, the area that surrounds it, besides the said mountains, also consists of lakes, rivers and rich greenery, making it clear why it is unique.
Many conquerors knew about its medicinal properties
The healing properties of the waters of Ovcar Banja, whose temperature is between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius, were known even during the Roman rule of the area. They are above all rich in sodium and calcium, but also in many other elements, such as bromine, manganese, iodine, and potassium, for example.
Except for bathing therapy in pools filled with spa water, wraps are also used for therapeutic purposes. There are indications that the waters of this spa were used in the Middle Ages, but also during the Turkish occupation, for treatment and recovery.
However, Ovcar Banja officially acquired that status only recently, on December 29, 2011, according to Turizamcacak.
A place to heal body and soul
Not only can people who suffer from degenerative and rheumatic diseases, as well as those of the skin and sports injuries recover here thanks to the thermal mineral waters, but they can also reinvigorate their soul by visiting the monasteries.
In addition, they can enjoy recreational activities in nature, but also the gastronomic offer, embodied in the national cuisine dishes prepared with local ingredients.
A walk along well-marked paths through nature leads to the numerous monasteries of the Ovcar-Kablar Gorge, also known as "Mt. Athos in Serbia."
Lovers of sport fishing can also enjoy themselves here, since there are organized fishing paths.
A visit to the observation point on Mount Kablar, which offers an almost unreal view of the meanders of the Zapadna (Western) Morava River, is one of the attractions of this region that visitors to Ovcar Banja usually do not miss.
