Criminal group arrested in Nis with 80 kilograms of marijuana: It's suspected the drugs were meant for Turkey

80 kilograms of marijuana were seized and eight members of a criminal group arrested in the town of Nis on suspicion that they committed the criminal offense of unauthorized production and distribution of narcotic drugs, the MUP announced.
It is suspected that the members of this criminal group were engaged in smuggling, selling, storing and transporting large quantities of marijuana.
The police first arrested I.P. (29) in Nis after 30 kilograms of drugs were found in the truck he was driving.
"The suspect was remanded in custody for up to 30 days, and police officers arrested the organizers of the group, A.R. (62), DZ.I. (53), both from Presevo, as well as I.M. (33), M.A. (33), P.M. (33), S.J. (23) and D.DJ. (28), all from Nis. During the search of the apartments and other premises they used in Nis, 50 more kilograms of marijuana were seized. It is suspected that the driver of the truck I.P. was supposed to transport the drugs to Turkey on the order of the members of the group," the MUP says.
The suspects have been detained for up to 48 hours and will be brought to the competent prosecutor's office with a criminal complaint.
The group was arrested by police officers from the Criminal Police Directorate, in cooperation with the Gendarmerie, by order of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Nis.
