The president of the provisional institutions of Pristina, Vjosa Osmani, announced today early elections for the mayors of the municipalities in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, to take place on December 18.

The elections will be held in the municipalities of Severna ("North") Kosovska Mitrovica, Zubin Potok, Leposavic, and Zvecan.

The decision was made after consultations with representatives of political parties and the Central Election Commission, reports Lajmi, according to Tanjug.

Osmani announced that she will turn to the international community with a request to monitor the elections and for greater international participation in the electoral process.

She also stated that the security institutions will take all measures "so that citizens, regardless of nationality, feel protected, safe and can exercise their constitutional rights."

Representatives of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo and the Serb List were not present at the consultations with Osmani, while the president of the Party of Kosovo Serbs, Aleksandar Jablanovic, and the president of the Progressive Democratic Party, Nenad Radic, were both there.
