Enthronement of Patriarch Porfirije to take place in the Patriarchate of Pec on October 14
The predecessors of Patriarch Porfirije were enthroned in the Patriarchate of Pec
On October 14, 2022, the Feast of the Intercession of the Theotokos, Serbian Orthodox Patriarch Porfirije will visit Kosovo and Metohija and the Patriarchate of Pec, the stavropegial lavra of Serbian Patriarchs, where he will attend Holy Liturgy that will be served by several archbishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC).
On that occasion, according to tradition, the solemn act of the enthronement of Porfirije to the most holy throne of Serbian patriarchs will be performed.
A statement published by the Serbian Orthodox Church says that the enthronement of patriarchs, successors of St. Sava, to the ancient throne in the Patriarchate of Pec resumed on August 24, 1924 when Dimitrije (Pavlovic) was enthroned as the head of the then established Serbian Patriarchate.
Others have been Patriarch Varnava (Rosic), on July 6, 1930, Patriarch Gavrilo (Dozic), on August 2, 1938, Patriarch German (Djoric), on May 29, 1960, Patriarch Pavle (Stojcevic), in July 1994 and Patriarch Irinej (Gavrilovic), on October 3, 2010.
