Indian summer begins: RHMZ forecasts higher temperatures, here's how long the weather will be stable
A period of dry, warm and mostly sunny weather, with temperatures above average, which occurs from mid-September to mid-November, is known as Indian summer
The Republic Hydrometeorological Institute (RHMZ) has forecast stable weather in the coming days with an increase in daily temperatures, which means that Indian summer is about to begin.
"Until the end of this week and the beginning of next week, dry and stable weather. Mornings will be chilly, in some places foggy, and the daily temperature in most places will range from 20 to 25 degrees Celsius," announced the RHMZ.
Meteorologist Professor Dr. Jugoslav Nikolic told Telegraf.rs on Sunday that this year there is high likelihood of an Indian summer during the last decade of October.
"A period of dry, warm and mostly sunny weather, with temperatures above average, which occurs from mid-September to mid-November, is known as Indian summer. This period most often occurs during October in a part of the month that is stable, dry and with temperatures above average for a certain decade of the month. If such a period of warm and stable weather occurs in November, then it is still called 'golden fall'. It's possible to have several periods of Indian summer during one fall. Indian summer can start earlier or later during the fall and last shorter or longer," Nikolic told Telegraf.rs.
He explained that Indian summer is conditioned by a typical synoptic situation, which implies an extensive anticyclone, centered in Central Europe.
"The type of weather is anticyclonic, warm and dry, mostly clear, with a weak wind without a dominant direction, and possible morning fog. The mean daily air temperature is higher than average. These conditions must be fulfilled for at least three consecutive days in order for the period to be considered an Indian summer. Indian summer in some years, such as this one, can be less pronounced, or even completely absent. Nevertheless, based on the currently available forecasting material, this year there is high likelihood of an Indian summer (a couple of days in a row with a temperature of around 25 degrees and clear weather, without wind) during the last decade of October," Professor Dr. Nikolic revealed for Telegraf.rs.
