Ocean of ozone below the clouds: The most interesting hiking trails on Mt. Kopaonik
Get to know "the Sunny Mountain" from a different perspective
"The Silver Mountain", "The Roof of Serbia" or "The Sunny Mountain" - these are the names used in tourist brochures to describe Mt. Kopaonik, which is considered to be the most beautiful in the fall, because of the abundance of colors and pleasant air temperatures.
And what better way to get to know a mountain than to walk along its hiking trails?
Kopaonik has a number of trails, and we mention three that are particularly interesting.
1. Gljivarska Staza ("Mushroom trail")
Only 1.9 kilometers long, this trail is excellent for families with small children, as well as for all those who are not in shape and want to learn about the types of mushrooms that grow in this climate.
2. Markov Kamen ("Marko's rock")
You can reach a group of rocks called Markov Kamen in about half an hour's leisurely walk from the tourist center. The trail is tourist-recreational and about two kilometers long, and leads through dense coniferous wooods.
3. Jankove Bare ("Janko's ponds")
Although the same length as Markov Kamen, Jankove Bare is quite demanding due to the terrain configuration. It belongs to the tourist-recreational category of trails, but it is necessary to set aside five to six hours for a hike through beautiful nature.
The path leads to a nature reserve and the largest heathland on Kopaonik and includes numerous streams that have wooden crossings installed over them for visitors' safety.
The nature reserve is named after Janko Sibinjanin (John Hunyadi), who passed through here with the Hungarian army in 1448.
