Russian spies arrested in Podgorica?
Several people have been arrested in Podgorica on suspicion of working for the Russian intelligence
Several Montenegrin citizens were arrested this morning in Podgorica on suspicion of working for the Russian intelligence, Vijesti is reporting.
The newspaper cites sources to report that one of the arrested persons, according to the Agency for National Security (ANB), has worked for the Russian service for more than a decade and is part of a wider group whose members are known to ANB.
Allegedly, this is an employee of the state administration.
The same source said that today's operation is just the beginning of activities to uncover associates of foreign intelligence services.
ANB did not answer whether it is true that several people have been arrested on suspicion of espionage.
As part of the operation of ANB, SDT and the Special Police Department (SPO), searches were carried out at several locations in Podgorica and the surrounding area, during which, according to the source, items "of interest to the investigation" were found.
Another Vijesti interlocutor said that this was part of an international operation and that Russian citizens are among those arrested.
The arrest operation was carried out by members of the Sector for Combating Crime.
