Brnabic: I will not accept that the LGBT community defies traditions and values of our society
The prime minister addressed an international conference on human rights
Prime Minister Ana Brnabic told an international conference on human rights that she will never accept the views that the LGBT community defies traditions and values of our society.
"I cannot accept attitudes that create boundaries between us, as individuals, just because of our sexual orientation," said the prime minister, reports Tanjug.
She stressed out that our very history, tradition, society and state have been built on centuries-long struggle for freedom.
She thanked EuroPride coordinator Goran Miletic and his team for organizing the event and stressed that this year's EuroPride is being held in Belgrade, for the first time in Southeast Europe.
"We learned to walk in the shoes of other people and tried to understand each other, but we also learned what is important for our country," said Brnabic.
She stressed that the EuroPride organizers showed solidarity with their country and society, a willingness to compromise and make difficult decisions when necessary.
After giving the speech, Prime Minister Brnabic was congratulated by the head of the EU delegation in Serbia, Emanuele Giofre.
The international conference on human rights, "Same and Different" was held in Belgrade as part of a program of events oriented towards human rights within the EuroPride event.
The conference has been gathering local and international politicians, public figures and human rights defenders from around the world since 2010.
The idea is to explore topics such as hate crimes and hate speech, discrimination and marriage equality through numerous sessions and lectures.
