Circus in Bosnia: FA congratulates Zrinjski on qualifying for Europe - but the club actually got knocked out
Whoever's behind the Football Association's social media made a serious mistake
Zrinjski Mostar football club was on the threshold of a historic result when they missed the chance to qualify to the group stage of this season's UEFA Conference League by losing a penalty shootout to Slovan from Bratislava.
Zrinjski was up 1-0 in the first match of the tie, while Slovan managed the same result in regular time of the second leg, so the teams headed into extra time.
Zrinjski then scored to make it 1-1 and it seemed that it was all over and that they were going to qualify for the European competition. However, at the very end, in the second minute of extra time's added time - the 122nd minute of the match - Slovan scored once again and secured a penalty shootout, which brought more drama.
Zrinjski scored all five penalties, but so did the Slovaks. Then Barisic missed the sixth penalty for Zrinjski - but so did Slovan's Kashia. Then, Malekniusic was unsuccessful from the spot for the Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH) club, and finally, Cavric finished it all by scoring for Slovan and securing victory.
But - someone who works for the Football Association of BiH and is in charge of the organization's social networks, made a big mistake and posted that it was Zrinjski that qualified, congratulating the club on achieving a "historic success for Bosnia-Herzegovina football."
The post was quickly deleted, but it was already too late since many noticed and screenshotted it, ridiculing the BiH FA for how unprofessional and amateurish they came across.
