Distressing photo from Montenegro: Desperate firefighter holds his head, blaze destroying everything
A number of wildfires are burning in Montenegro
Firefighters from all over Montenegro spent last night on the ground extinguishing fires that are raging along the Adriatic coast, from Bar to Herceg Novi.
The situation was dramatic in all areas, but perhaps the most distressing scene was seen last night near Perast, when exhausted and helpless firefighters didn't know what to do.
One of them took a short break, sat on the fire ruck and held his head, and the locals think he even cried.
But there was no time to rest, so the heroes went back to fighting with the fires again.
The wildfire in the area around Kotor has been raging for two days, and today it flared up in Drazin Vrt as the wind picked up.
The deputy commander of the Protection and Rescue Service, Eduard Kovacevic, said that all available firefighting forces have been sent to that location and that members of the Voluntary Firefighting Society from Perast were also helping.
"The fire has approached houses, but for now the situation is under control," Kovacevic told Radio Kotor, which reports that there was no smoke above Perast and Stoliv this morning.
Currently, apart from Drazin Vrt, there are active fires in Kostanjica, Morinje and Bijela, as well as in the area above Kamenari.
"Residential buildings in this area are not in danger," said Kovacevic.
