The police in Herceg Novi, Montenegro, have arrested 19-year-old L.R. on suspicion that he deliberately started ten fires in the territory of this municipality.

It is suspected that from July 24 to August 8, L.R. started fires on ten occasions in a part of the Herceg Novi hinterland, setting fire to low and high vegetation along regional roads, which resulted in considerable material damage.

"He was continuously starting fires in the settlements of Njivice, Zvinje, Sutorini, Podima, Kamen, Mokrina, Sitnica, Zelenica and Kumbor," the police said in a statement.

In addition to the Herceg Novi Protection and Rescue Service, officers of the Directorate for Emergency Situations and the Army of Montenegro actively participated in putting out these fires, using areal support to battle the blaze in Zvinje and the surrounding villages.

The suspect will be brought before the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Kotor along with a criminal complaint.
