Jevrosimovic is proud: "We never had a stronger junior team in history, they will also win medals as seniors"
The president of the Athletics Federation of Serbia stressed that hard work with younger generations is paying off
President of the Athletics Federation of Serbia Veselin Jevrosimovic told a press press conference held on the occasion of Adriana Vilagos and Angelina Topic winning medals at the World Junior Championship in Cali, that dedicated work has paid off and that Serbia has never had a stronger junior national team.
"I want to congratulate our young national team, our young athletes who participated in the world championship, as well as the head coach. Out of 12 participating teams, we took part in four finals, winning two medals. The gold medal of Adriana Vilagos, who threw a fantastic 63.52 meters, was only 17 centimeters short of the world junior record. I am convinced that she will confirm her dominance in the junior competition, but also later on as a senior."
Jevrosimovic then spoke about the other medal winner, who was unlucky to get food poisoning before the competition, but still managed to win a medal.
"The second medal, we consider it gold, the bronze medal of Angelina Topic. She had a lot of bad luck, you are all informed that seven of our athletes had food poisoning, four of whom had a competition ahead of them, but they found the strength, they went to the arena and Angelina won a medal under such conditions and made us all happy. Also, I would like to point out the fantastic result achieved by Bogdan Vidojkovic, who was in the final in the 110 meter hurdles and came seventh. We have never had such a talented hurdler and I am sure that he is the future of athletics and that he will make us very happy in the future. Also Zorana Rokavec, who had a severe form of food poisoning, but she went out to the arena and finished 10th. I would also point out Teodora Boberic and Jana Dragutinovic in the triple jump. In the triple jump, we had four female athletes with competitive standards, but the rule of World Athletics is that only two representatives can participate."
"I am proud because we currently have the strongest junior team that we have ever had, the Athletics Federation, together with the state and the Olympic Committee, is investing in our new generations, and when you have such organized work and when you have professionals as their coaches, of whom I am especially proud, because we have top coaches who can work with young people and who will definitely follow our young selections at major international competitions. It is organized work which has produced results and if we continue to invest as a state in these young teams, they will bring us a lot of medals in senior competitions as well."
